July 1996 was the start of Jason’s nearly 23 years of honorable service as a U.S. Marine. He began his career as an enlisted Reconnaissance Marine, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Jason then participated in an enlisted-to-commission program, making the transition to the officer ranks, where he served as an infantry/reconnaissance officer. In April 2019, Jason retired as a Major.
During his enlisted career, Jason attended multiple military courses, including Amphibious Reconnaissance, Combatant Diver, Basic Airborne, Dive Supervisor, and Infantry training. As an officer, he attended Expeditionary Warfare School, Military Freefall, Static Line Jumpmaster, Freefall Jumpmaster, Infantry Mortar Leader, and the Tactical MAGTF Integration Course. Jason also served as the Executive Officer for the Reconnaissance Training Company, where he was responsible for seven programs of instruction.
Jason conducted five deployments, including three in support of combat operations. During his first deployment to Afghanistan, he was a battlespace commander responsible for 48 square kilometers, 70 Marines, and more than $5 million worth of equipment. On his second deployment to Afghanistan, he served as the Company Commander of a Reconnaissance Company, conducting operations throughout the Southern Helmand Province in support of Division operations.
